LASERS & ILLUMINATORS

The Wilcox RAID-Xe is Wilcox’s next iteration in the RAID line of next generation aiming lasers. The RAID-Xe uses VCSEL laser technology to produce an amazingly clear IR laser and Ir illuminator.  The Wilcox RAID-Xe mounts to any standard picatinny rail. Previous aiming lasers have used edge emitting laser technology. This can cause irregularities in the illuminator, often referred to as amebas. VCSEL technology is a center emitting laser which produces a much cleaner beam over legacy edge emitting laser diodes.

The RAID-Xe is primarily operated with a mode selection dial and fire control button on the top of the unit.  This allows for easy manipulation of the laser functions to fit the environmental need. The RAID-XE can also be operated with an included proprietary tape switch.

In addition to a very clean illuminator, the Raid-Xe has a much smaller footprint than legacy laser aiming devices. This makes the laser easier to run ambidextrous and increases compatibility with other accessories. The controls are also in improved locations.

The illuminator has both flood and extended throw illuminator modes so the Wilcox RAID-Xe can be adjusted for different environmental conditions. The illuminator divergence adjustment is in the rear so the operator can adjust on the fly without breaking a master grip. This is key when manipulating a gun at night.

Our favorite feature of the Wilcox Raid-Xe is the ability to manually adjust the output of the laser and illuminator independently of each other. This allows user run a more powerful illuminator but setting the laser to a level where the target is not bloomed out.

The L3 NGAL (Next Generation Aiming Laser) is L3Harris’ latest weapon mounted laser system. The NGAL is a rugged, ultra-compact, and lightweight system designed to be compatible with all generations of night vision devices. The NGAL uses advanced VCSEL laser technology to produce a much cleaner laser and illuminator over old generation aiming lasers.

In addition to a very clean illuminator, the L3 NGAL has a much smaller footprint that a standard PEQ-15. This makes the laser a little easer to run ambidextrous. The controls are also in improved locations. The NGAL is operated with a mode selection dial and fire control button on the top of the unit. This allows for easy manipulation of the laser functions to fit the environmental need. The NGAL can also be operated with an included proprietary tape switch.

The illuminator has both flood and extended throw illuminator modes so the NGAL can be adjusted for different environmental conditions. The illuminator divergence adjustment is in the rear so the user can adjust much easier than previous lasers where divergence adjustment is all the way in the front. This is key when manipulating the gun at night and under stress.

The NGAL comes with diffuser caps so the user has the ability use the laser in dual high mode but tone back the laser. This allows the user to still use the high power illuminator but not have the laser be too powerful for close distance aiming.

The ATPIAL Ultra High Power LA-5C is a high power and machine gun hardened variant of the standard PEQ-15. The ATPIAL Ultra High Power, otherwise known as the LA-5C is a weapon mounted IR / visible laser weapon site for use with night vision devices. The LA-5C features a slaved visible and IR laser and an IR illuminator. This give the user the ability to zero the laser during the day and the IR laser will be slaved and will hold the same zero as the visible laser. This allows the zero process to be easier and more precise than at night.

Zeroing the laser is accomplished with elevation and windage flat head screws that sit flush with the housing eliminating accidental adjustment. If a screw driver is not handy, the rim of a 5.56 casing can be used to adjust the screws. The Illuminator is zeroed with knobs on the top and side of the unit. This give the user the ability to adjust the illuminator position in the field if used with clip on night vision devices. The user can zero both the slaved lasers and the illuminator independently to place the aiming laser in the center of the illuminator and adjust the illuminator for clip on’s.

The LA-5C mounts to any standard picatinny rail and can be ran in multiple positions in conjunction with other accessories on multiple weapon platforms. The ATPIAL Ultra High Power sits low on the rail so most lower 1/3 or taller mounts / optics will clear the laser from sight picture.

The unit is operated primarily with a selection dial and fire button on the top of the unit. This lets the user easily manipulate the laser functions to fit the environmental need. Another very intuitive and ergonomic feature is the rear facing batter compartment. This lets the user change the batteries in the device without having to unmount the laser if being used with an iron site mounted in front of the laser.

Due to the extremely strong output of the ATPIAL UHP the unit gives the user the ability to reach out to extremely long distances. The laser output is capable of signaling aerial support, as well as, communicating with others. However, the ATPIAL UHP also has intuitive settings to allow users to quickly change to CQB mode. This decreases the power of the laser so the laser does not bloom out at close distances. This mode still gives users a high power illuminator but with a toned back laser for aiming at close distances. This is extremely helpful in very low light and very high light conditions when higher outputs are needed to overcome photonics barriers.

The divergence adjustment of the illuminator offers a much wider range than the PEQ-15. The illuminator can be focused very wide to all the way down to a very narrow beam much like the aiming laser. This gives the ATPIAL UHP a very versatile range of uses.

The L3Harris ATPIAL High Power (LA-5B) is a high power variant of the standard PEQ-15 laser aiming device. The ATPIAL High Power, otherwise known as the LA-5B, is a weapon mounted IR / visible laser aiming device used with night vision devices. The L3Harris LA-5B features an IR illuminator along with a slaved visible and IR laser. The slaved IR & visible lasers gives the user the ability to simply zero the visible laser and the IR laser will hold the same zero as the visible laser. This allows the zero process to be easier and more precise than zeroing the laser under night vision goggles.

Zeroing the laser is accomplished with elevation and windage flat head screws that sit flush with the housing eliminating accidental adjustment. The L3Harris ATPIAL High Power (LA-5B) sits low on the rail so most lower 1/3 or taller optic mounts will clear the laser from a users sight picture.
